hold me in your arms
call me your little girl
but don’t forget
to push me away
every now and then
so i remember
that i can exist
without being in
your embrace

hold me in your arms
call me your little girl
but don’t forget
to push me away
every now and then
so i remember
that i can exist
without being in
your embrace
–parents
when you wake
i can feel me
as your first thought
and i smile
because you
were mine
i am the scarf
around your neck
you supporting me
me comforting you
some days I wake
with a spring in my step
a wealth of energy
and I think
maybe today
maybe today the fight
will end
the beast will sleep
and I will be me again
and I wait
hoping it is true
I want to curl up in your words
finally able to find rest
from the kindness
I want to keep you with me
so that I always have comfort
So that each sound out of your mouth
will pick me up when I am down
and lock me in an embrace that says
You Are Beautiful
You Are Talented
You Are Loved
You Are Enough For Me
–validation
i knew from a distance
you were hurting
my heart is still
tethered to yours
all i want
is to remove your pain
but if it is gone
there will be nothing left
for me to hold onto
and you will slip away
only a memory
that will evaporate
like catching a wisp of
smoke with bare hands
while you slept
i counted your eyelashes
because each one
gave me more of you to love
I have really enjoyed writing poetry
sometimes I don’t think it fits in a box
or needs a title
so I will leave it unnamed
who needs perfection
enjoy the series
i peel my skin away
as if i spent all day in the sun
trying to be warmed by your rays
but instead i was burned
peeling away myself
so that i might
unearth someone new
from underneath
someone raw
and not afraid of
feeling
